The Shadow Days are over
We all knew that that time would come when we would have to leave high school and enter into the meaner World. We all knew that we would soon have to come out from behind the shadows of our stereotypes, put our armors on and brace ourselves for the harsh realities of what the transition from pre-teen to post trauma (aka adulthood) brings.
Growing up sucks! – can you empathize?
On grad day when we all hit the 2nd verse of Mariah and Whitney’s “When you believe” (the quintessential kick ass song of the century) and we come to the realization that ‘yes, shit will get crappy’. But Mariah’s reassuring vocals gives us something to hold onto… miracles. Like really, seriously Mariah… miracles? –scoffs- how about marching to Amy Whinehouse’s “You know I’m no good” and just keep it re-to-the-ezeal with us tentative slaves or slave masters?
No matter how much we try to protest the World’s conforms, it’s undeniable that we are all a part of a cruel social triangle that ultimately hands us either a blue ribbon or a sword and shield – what we do with it, is absolutely up to us.
“Break free from the back allies of life before it’s too late. March your way out onto the highways taking your opportunity by the hand and learn how to fly”
We are a generation with 21st Century minds, progressive and innovative… the Shadow Days are over and now our destinies and fates are our own.

ReplyDeleteSociety is a b*tch. TO make it even worst, half of the people who create conflict are those who claim to be on the DL.. PROJECTION, PROJECTION.
In all though, I think all this helps to make a person stronger, it builds you, and prepare you for anything that might happen in the future.
Each one, empower one, and together we can do this :-)

ReplyDeleteSociety can be brutal but this is the place where we exist> and even though we speak of society as an individual>>> society is us and we are society hence we can make our lot better in this construct by being responsible, knowing time and place and being civil in all interactions

ReplyDeleteWhen things happen to us. they are for a greater purpose... even though they may be good or bad. they are apart of a grand design of our existence>> somethings are self induced others are third party inflicted. we just have to knw that life goes on. things indeed happen to make us stronger.

DeleteSure doe! Everything that happens to someone is always their to build them for what's to come in the future. Face the problems head on, because when you overcome, the feeling of victory will be unmatched!

DeleteIf giving up is not an option, what is?
ReplyDeleteWe hear it time and time again, inspirers drilling it into our minds about the importance of NEVER giving up and blah blah blah. To be honest, when I’m down and feeling like quitting the last thing I want to hear is that “You can do this” or “Never give up, it’s not an option”. It’s to no use for me, because in the end the work is ultimately up to me and you telling me that I can do it won’t get it done. With that said, yes I know that for me giving up is not an option, but seriously what is?
For years now my substitute for not quitting have been to work my ass off (not literally, no pun intended), to fight, to conquer, to win! (Sounds like a Nicki Minaj song, I know haha) This is where being ‘different’ sucks, you’re not handed opportunities like the status qou ‘pretty’ or ‘normal’ people. Cases in point, the hardest workers on the plantations in those latter days were the ones sewing all the seeds and reaping NADA. So how then can I take you seriously when you tell me that what I sew I must reap? Aha, you see these are the matters that I like digging into but I promise not to get carried away with my conspiracy theories of the ‘White Man’ or that of the standard society.
Fact is, it’s easy to say what is or is not an option, take these for example;
“There’s no such word as can’t” – Keep it real, yes there is, it may not be constructive to use but it exists!
“What you sew, you shall reap” – Not necessarily, explain for me slavery. Villains are real!
“Giving up is not an option!” – That’s easy for you to say, but what is?
So, we’re back here again… My thought is this; it’s the simple analogy of YES, NO or MAYBE, there’s always a third option. Regardless of how one track minded society appears there is room for indifference. Instead of trying to decide to give-up or keep-up why not choose to just LIVE-UP? Choose happiness; leave the war surrendering only your weapons and not yourself. Once we have made the conscious decision to ‘live-up’, everything else will fall into place and that I can promise.
